This video is part of an exploration of my artistic approach around the family heritage and the question of transmission. The idea for this project dates back a few years. However, it took the confinement period in the spring of 2020 to bring images and thoughts together in an artistic creation. From this experience, I will keep this parenthesis where past, present and future mingle, come and go like the surf on a shore.
From the editing that I realize, emerges my own mythology of the genesis. My history strongly linked to that of the Mediterranean basin, is nourished by the symbolism of this sea "encircled by land". Crossing biographical events there allows me to look at certain existences that move there with a magnifying glass. Water, a essential substance for life, is omnipresent. The ebb and flow of the sea harmonize with the palpitations of an intra-uterine life to express my own version of the origins. I am not departing here from the guideline of my general artistic approach where importance is given to the materiality of things. Aqueous media are living and fluid matters here: water, revealing baths, amniotic fluid, are tinged with a red color, teem with cells in micro-movements, palpitate to the rhythm of the beating of a heart and that of sounds, hybridizes with the screen surface. The times are interwoven in the images that reveal multiple temporal experiences and new ways of viewing the passage of time.
The Mediterranean as a metaphor for a matrix environment, appears as a place of in-between, which separates or sometimes reunites present and past lands and men.
